Walnut, travertine and a seam of stone.
Index is a 450 m² private apartment in Dubai, completed in 2025. Curved walnut volumes divide the open plan into living, dining and bar areas without closing it; long sofas in deep brown velvet, sculptural chairs and bold artworks set the tone for each room.
A dramatic, agate-patterned stone runs through the apartment, from the kitchen island and the bar to the master shower. The bedrooms are quieter, in warm timber and soft plaster, and the master bathroom is lined in vein-cut travertine with backlit niches.

Walnut curves and a stone that recurs.
The living room is the first space: long sofas, sculptural chairs and large artworks, held within the curves of the walnut. The curves lead on to the dining area, the kitchen and the bar, where shelves are lit from within and the island stands in patterned stone. Further in, the bedrooms are calmer and lit by lamps. The master bathroom closes the sequence, with niches lit from behind and a shower clad in the same stone as the island.
Walnut forms the curved walls and the joinery, a dark, warm wood that wraps the open plan. The agate-patterned stone is used three times, at the island, the bar and the shower, and its strong markings make each one a focal point. Tufted velvet on the living room sofa gives a deep, soft surface against the hard stone. Travertine lines the master bathroom of this Dubai apartment, quieter than the agate pattern, cut so its layers read as lines.
Open-plan living in a luxury apartment in Dubai can easily lose its sense of rooms. Index avoids that with curved walnut volumes that shape the living, dining and bar areas while keeping light and views flowing through the whole 450 m². The curves also guide guests from one area to the next. Repeating one striking stone at the island, the bar and the master shower ties the apartment together, while the bedrooms are kept quiet for rest. Completed in 2025, it shows how a strong material story can stay easy to live with day to day. It was designed by IAIA, with the interior architecture drawn in the same studio.
