Entry is straight into the one room, so the whole space reads at once. Daylight crosses it from the long side, softened by the curtains, and falls on the rows of carpet before it reaches the far wall. The eye is drawn forward to the mihrab, then upward, where the dome gathers the glow of the chandelier.
Three finishes carry the room. The flowered carpet covers the floor and marks out the rows for prayer, its blue answering the curtains. Overhead, the cream damask of the coffers keeps the ceiling soft and even. The gilt dome, with its crystal at the centre, is the one point of shine, catching both daylight and lamplight. The mosque stands in Sharjah.
